Allen J. Hubin in his _Crime fiction 1749-1980_ and _1st Suppl: 
1980-1985_, (sorry, I don't have the 2d ed.), lists
Cleve F(ranklin) Adams, 1895-1949.  Also wrote as by "John Spain" and 
"Franklin Charles".  12 titles under own name; 3 as by "Spain"; 1 as by 
"Charles", (which pseudonym a joint one with Robert Leslie Bellem).
No entry for Walt Shelton.
