A question for specialists of english bibliography ( Mike
Ashley ? )
The number 142 of the series "Un Myst貥", by the french
publisher "Presses de la Cit馱uot; in september 1953 is :
Peter Cheyney : "Monsieur Callaghan" ( original title "Deadly
fresco" )
In the "Hubin", there is no such title in Cheyney's
bibliography, but a "Deadly Fresco" by "Lyn Southney".
I thought it was a pseudonym of Cheyney because his real name
was Reginald Evelyn Peter Southouse-Cheyney and Lyn Southney
was an abbreviation of this name.
I wrote this to C.A.D.S. some years ago, and an italian
answered me that this french book was a translation of a book
written by an italian author, a tribute to Peter Cheyney,
information given by Pirani's bibliographies.
After years of search, I could find one : Lyn Southney :
"Deadly Fresco"
( Edinburgh & London, The Moray
Press, 1939 ) I compared, and "Monsieur Callaghan" is really
a translation od "Deadly Fresco" On page 5, it's printed
:
"For Peter and Anne Cheyney"
The dutch site of Nico Van Embden : http://www.xs4all.nl/~embden11/Engels/List.htm
gives : Lyn Southney pseudonym of Peter Cheyney
The italian index of Crime fiction http://www.lfb.it/fff/giallo/index.htm
gives: Peter Cheyney : "Non c'蠤ue senza tre" ( original title
"Deadly Fresco" )
( Il Giallo Mondadori, n° 331, 1955 )
it was published after the french one !
Who wrote what ?
Is there ( printed or on the web ) a complete bibliography of
Peter Cheyney with details of first publications of all short
stories ?
